From December 14, 2024, to February 15, 2025, the Canadian government is introducing a GST/HST Holiday on select goods and services. Here at Designated Drinks, we’re here to break it all down and let you know how it affects your shopping experience with us.

What’s the GST/HST Holiday?

The federal government has temporarily waived the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on a range of items. That means no tax on qualifying purchases during this limited time!

This measure is designed to provide financial relief for Canadians on everyday essentials and holiday spending.

What’s Tax-Free?

Here’s a list of qualifying items that matter most to you:

  • Non-Alcoholic Beverages: Yes, your favorite non-alcoholic beer is now tax-free! (Finally, a perk for the sober curious.)

  • Prepared Foods and Snacks: Chips, candy, pre-made sandwiches, salads — bring on the munchies.

  • Alcoholic Beverages (Under 7% ABV): Your ready-to-drink coolers, cider, and light beverages also make the cut.

  • Holiday Items: Christmas trees and decorations to make your season bright.

What’s NOT Tax-Free?

Some items don’t qualify for this holiday, including:

  • Alcoholic beverages over 7% ABV (sorry, no tax-free whiskey).

  • Items purchased from vending machines.

  • Non-qualifying gift baskets (less than 90% of the value from tax-exempt goods).
